Preparing for the Board: The CEO-CHRO Dialogue, Mumbai

Preparing for the Board: The CEO-CHRO Dialogue October 29, 2009 | Mumbai

In the past decade, the criticality of the HR function has increased considerably, due to the global economic boom of 2003-2008, which drove demand for quality talent to new highs. Yet, HR lacks a concomitant presence on the board. SHRM India aims to address this anomaly and other significant HR issues through a series of programmes and discussions.

As part of this long-term engagement, SHRM India in association with 9.9 Media, hosted the first in the series of CEO-CHRO dialogues in July and August in New Delhi and Bangalore respectively. Given the overwhelming response in both cities, with over 30 CEOs and HR heads deliberating upon the evolving role of the CHRO and assessing their strengths and readiness to join the board, we are now extending these discussions to Mumbai as well. We aim to bring together teams of CEOs and CHROs from 15-20 organisations to carry this debate forward on October 29, 2009 from 07:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Krishnan Ramachandran, Director - Thomas Cook has been invited to chair the session. He was the first Indian Vice President and Managing Director for Philips Electronics India operations and eventually became the CEO for the Indian subcontinent. Having worked as the Head of Human Resource function during his early years at Philips India his professional interests include People, Business Excellence,Transformation, Change, and Innovation and these best capture his learning, contributions and leadership capabilities. Following his retirement from Philips Electronics, he now advises and works with several companies in these areas in addition to his engagement with the Aditya Birla Group.

The key questions to be debated include:
- Where are India's CHROs today in their journey to the board?
- Is there a clear roadmap to facilitate their transition to the next level?
- What is the CEO's view on the CHRO's board readiness?
